Sai Young Adults
Young men and women, the world’s good fate, world’s progress is dependent on the transformation of the youth, today. Only when the youth transform themselves with good character, will the world be able to experience ideal virtues.
-Sri Sathya Sai Baba, World Youth Conference, 1997
The Sri Sathya Sai Young Adults Programme (SSYAP) seeks to deliver this powerful message to the world through young adults worldwide. The Programme encourages men and women, between the ages of 18 and 40, to lead purposeful lives in service of their families, communities and countries by learning and practising the spiritual principles revealed by the life, teachings and work of Sri Sathya Sai Baba. Primary importance is given to holistic character development through both personal transformation and selfless service.
At Fremont, the Young Adults are very active in center activities. We take part in the weekly devotional service (singing, playing instruments, audio set up), participate in study circles, and also in a number of different seva initiatives.
Devotional Singing
The Young Adults lead Bhajans once a month on the first Sunday. All Young Adults (and SSE group 4 students) who attend Bhajan practice the week before are welcome to sing! If you'd like to offer a Bhajan, please come to the practice the week before. You're also welcome to play instruments during Bhajans once you've attended the practice.
There are also other activities that one could get involved in such as offering flowers at the Altar, and setting up the room and Swami's Altar.
Service (Seva)
The Young Adults are involved in many different Seva activities, either in conjunction with the center or the region. Some of the activities are as follows:
Gardening at Elementary Schools
Tutor at Saturday Math Academy at multiple Hayward Elementary Schools.
Help build and maintain teaching gardens at the same schools above.
Weekly Breakfast Service at the Tri-city Homeless Shelter
Volunteering in various capacities at the Ashland Free Medical Clinic
This is not an exhaustive list of the activities; there are many other activities such as helping out with the various events (both internal and public outreach) hosted by the center and the region. If you'd like to learn more about any of these or have an idea for a new project, please send an email to fremontsathyasaicenter@gmail.com
